The brain is first hyperemic, and this condition is succeeded by effusion, which pressing upon the minuter vessels increases the area Of cerebral anemia. This theory is supported by the experiments of brown-sequard who demonstrated that an anemic condition Of the brain and nervous centres precedes an epileptic attack. While there is in this theory much to commend for its ingenu ity, and in many cases to accept without question, yet there are many unexplained difficulties to its acceptance as a finality.
