The truth is, this is much greater than the proportion of tonnage indicates, inasmuch as the capital and the industry, occupied in finding employ for this great amount of tonnage. A satisfactory estimate of, the value of that capital and industry would require a mi muteness of detail, little reconcileable either with your patience, or with the necessity of the present atgument.
