Description

Dowling holds a special place in the history of Australian art, as the first artist to be be trained in Australia and was renowned for his paintings of pastoralists, indigenous people and biblical themes. This is the first major exhibition of his work; Mar/April at Queen Victoria Museum & Gallery; May/July - Geelong; July/Oct - Nat Gallery, Canberra

Author Biography:

John Jones is a curator and art historian and a former curator at the National Gallery of Australia. His publications include A Story of Australian Painting. He currently advises the Gallery on its historic picture frame restoration and recreation project.
