"Leon, Chris and Jake=awesome Resident Evil"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

There are a lot of mixed reviews about this game, so it really comes down to your preferences when it comes to purchasing this game. I got this title because I'm a RE fan: not a hardcore one, but enough to pre-order the game without a second thought. Let's look at the controls: Shinji Mikami really changed the feel of Resident Evil by borrowing elements from his “Vanquish” title and it actually was not bad: I thought the cover system was a great idea, and the ability to melee is another feature I enjoy. Mercenaries mode is as fun as ever, and I've only played through Leon's story and so far so good. The only concern I have with this game is that they completely took away the ‘horror’ factor: which is what they wanted in the first place anyway. It's honestly a fun game, and if you liked Resident Evil 4 and 5…this is worth the buy.

Oh btw…

don't worry, I reckon the game is a bajillion times better than the RE: Damnation and RE:Afterlife films -_-"

"An interesting development to the series"
4 stars"

After finishing Resident Evil 5, I admit this was not how I expected the series would continue. Though I am still satisfied with the majority of it. The return of Leon S Kennedy and the highly graphic combat system would probably be my highlights. The three story lines revolving around Jake, Chris and Leon are also an interesting layout to the game, despite making it feel slightly segmented. Overall, well worth it. A must have for RE fans in general.

"Do you LOVE Quicktime Events-!"
1 stars"

If you do this is the game for you! Looks and sounds great but swiftly deteriorates into one QTE after another linked together with cut-scene after cut-scene. My advice is play RE4 instead because that's where the franchise peaked and its all downhill from there

"Different Move yet still good"
5 stars"

A different turn for the Resident Evil series yet still not a bad game. Whether new to the series would have some trouble understanding whats going on but if your a long time fan definitely worth checking out.

"More Traditional"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Resident Evil 6 is an excellent combination of the mechanics of 5 and some of the more traditional elements of the Resident Evil series.

RE5 was an interesting take on the franchise, but its unusual environments and different approach to ‘survival horror’ made in less enjoyable for series fans. RE6 takes the shooting and movement mechanics and places them back into a more familiar environment (mostly the dark).

There is still quite a heavy reliance on quick-time events, which does distract from the immersion. The opening sequence is almost entirely a QTE, but this changes pretty quickly.

Co-op is still an excellent mode, but some elements could be made more in-depth in regards to using two players, some combat situations could be made more elaborate and entertaining by focusing on the two players.

The mechanics are excellent, the story and environments are much better than 5, and the amount of content is massive for a Resident Evil game.

All in all, a very solid effort, without being groundbreaking.

"Twenty bucks is about right."
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It’s not as bad as most of the reviews indicate, it’s just unnecessarily frustrating in some respects. For instance the game only saves every twenty minutes or so! It checkpoint saves regularly in case you die, but if you quit you can’t load those saves. You have to wait for a save game (the little type writer comes up)… And it only does that every twenty minutes. And a little thing like a flashlight would have made a big difference. It’s dark nearly all the time, and although you have a flashlight you only use it in scripted areas, you can’t use it at will. Why the hell not- And not being able to drop guns you don’t use to free up space in your inventory, forcing you to drop ammo or precious healing items.

I had some difficulty with the camera and controls. There’s a lot of melee combat in very enclosed spaces, unfortunately the camera is completely unsuited for this. Instead of it pulling out a bit to allow for some situational awareness, it zooms right in so you can’t see what you’re doing, and bobs in and out as you get close to or move away from objects. This led to some very frustrating battles. And your character moves too sluggishly. There are times when I saw an attack coming and there was nothing I could do about it because I couldn’t get out of the way in time. A dodge control would have been handy there. I would have spent a lot less time getting knocked down. You get knocked down a lot in this game. A LOT.

The QTEs are a pain but they’re not as frequent as they are in the tutorial sequence.

I’m pleased that zombies make a return, at least in part of the game. I was never really a fan of the la plaga infectees of 4 and 5. The game is quite challenging on normal, and I’m glad to say it hasn’t introduced auto health regen like nearly every other modern game. You still need to find those herbs to raise your health.

Leon’s campaign is traditional Resident Evil, but it turns into Call of Duty with monsters for Chris’s campaign. That is not what I want in a Resident Evil game. And the camera and controls are woefully inadequate for that kind of intense action. I didn’t really like fighting the mutant gangster BOWs. Give me back my zombies!

Finally, I would have liked it if the campaigns had a better lead in or intro so I knew what was going on. When you start Leon’s campaign you’re in the president’s office witnessing him transform into a zombie. A little context would have been nice. Why were you there- How did the outbreak get started- Why does the president of the US have his office in some old, dilapidated collage campus- Context would have helped me get more engrossed in what was going on.

The good: Good characters you actually care about and solid voice acting. Zombies. Challenge. Length.

The bad: Not enough zombies. Too many QTEs. Too many things you have to do exactly right or you automatically die. Getting knocked down so often. Not enough story lead in. Sluggish controls. Poor camera angles especially when the camera changes perspective during escape sequences. Too much respawn.

"DECENT"
4 stars"

I'd say better than Res 5 not as good as 4 and the Resident Evil series before that. Back when the game gave you the chills when you opened that squeaky mansion door. Has a long life span. Well worth the $30.

Great game, haven't really played Resident Evil games before Mighty Ape had a great deal, so I thought why not give it a go. Wow great game, scary in places dark and quite challenging.

"A lot of fun"

I was really in to this type of game over 14 years ago and I can't believe how much better these games have got. If you want a game that has heaps to do then this is a great game to buy. There are 4 characters to play in different ways so there is lots to do and many difficulty settings to make the game right for you.

"Boring game"

An excellent game, scares the hell outta ya. Nice gameplay all round so far, seems to be very advanced compared to their other games. Well worth it in my opinion.

"Got bored after 5 mins"

Was playing it and it was very slow game play they over push the plots and they try and immurse you into it. When every time you try to relate to a character it will go into some sort of help mode or every time you try to practice something it will then bring out things at full force it's a bad game
