Description

The quartermaster's tale of survival in the Burma jungle in WWII.A gut-wrenching story of an ordinary Englishman who survived jungle warfare in Burma, told with a sense of humor and accuracy that understates the horrors and degradation he along with all his lost comrades endured.George Spill was conscripted into the British Army at the age of 30. He was sent to India in the Royal Artillery and finished up in the Burma jungle. He fought through some of the most savage battles of World War II. He became the Battery Quartermaster Sergeant and was one of the few who survived against impossible odds from the forgotten 14th Army. A reluctant war hero, this is his uncensored story.

Author Biography:

George Spill was born a cockney in London. He was conscripted into the British Army when he was 30 years old. He was sent to India, traveled to Quetta and into Afghanistan before finishing up in Burma. As Quartermaster Sergeant, George endured the horrors of jungle warfare and disease as the highest-ranking NCO in his Battery. He was enchanted by stories of New Zealand after he met a couple of Kiwis, who were flying for the R.A.F. and who survived a crash in the Burmese jungle. After saving enough money to pay for his passage and buy a new house, George sailed with his family to New Zealand. He built several thriving businesses and lived happily with his wife Olive and three children. Despite loosing his wife to Alzheimer's, he was able to live a long productive life till he was 97 years old. Nick Spill is an investigator for a State Agency specializing in major crimes. He previously released The Way of the Bodyguard about his experiences protecting the famous, the infamous and the anonymous. Nick Spill ran his own investigation and bodyguard agency in South Florida. The last time he saw his father in Orewa, New Zealand, Nick promised to publish George's war memoir, Reluctant Q.
