Excerpt from Psyche: Novelle The joy of returning to his home was dimmed, however, by the course of the political events which finally con verted schleswig-holstein into a Prussian province, and by the death of his wife, with whom he had lived hap pily. Though Storm remained true to the memory of Konstanze, he found happiness in a second union (cf. His story Viola tricolor). In 1866 e married Dorothea Jen sen, who was related both to him and to Konstanze, and who for years had been on friendly terms with them. After the death of his parents Storm retired from public service, and left Husum where the reminis cences of olden times weighed too heavily on his mind. He built a home between the villages of Hademarschen and Hanerau, where he spent the rest of his life in quiet retirement. On July 4, 1888, the poet died, and in accordance with his wishes was buried beside his first wife in the family vault at Husum.
