Excerpt from Proceedings of the New York Historical Society: For the Year 1844 We have also been called to mourn the loss of a zealous associate in william L. Stone, so long and so favorably known as an active literary and political Editor of one of our oldest daily journals, but who still found time to gratify his taste for historical and general literature, and by his works to give his name a place in our literary annals. Up to the period of his last fatal illness, he was an ardent and efficient member of the Society, and of its Executive Committee, and had in course of preparation for the press, further valuable results of his researches into the early his tory of our State. The latest production of his pen was a paper on an interesting historical subject, intended by him to be read before the Society, which is now in the posses sion of the Committee, and will be presented on a future occasion. Doctor samuel forry had but recently joined the Society, but his constant attendance upon its meetings, the part he took in its discussions, and the papers read by him, as well as his productions and labors in the line of his profession, left no room to doubt that the favorable estimate his many friends had formed of his character, was just; and that in his early death this Society has lost a valuable member, and the community an estimable citizen.
