Prey (ex shelf stock) reviews

I bought PREY Sunday afternoon and completed it monday evening, so longevity isnt much to speak about in this game (reminds me of King Kong). Part of this was not being able to put the controller down, and wanting to ‘get the alien scum’, the other part is that its an easy game to complete. Having said that PREY is a very cool game. Graphics are superb utilising the DOOM engine (you could be forgiven for thinking you are playing DOOM for the first 2 or 3 levels), the use of portals and gravity makes for some incredible flipping of the screen, in one part your character throws up because of the motion. The music and sound effects do the job adding to the tension, but are not overbearing. The story is what holds it all together, with the plot unfolding with its fair share of twists. The switches between ‘spirit’ and ‘real world’ make for interesting game play, with you having to use a combination of both to get access to pathways not open by normal means. Some parts of this game are genuinely disturbing, and some of the language Tommy uses is pretty down to earth, which actually makes the game more playable because he seems like a real person. Characters are well animated and textured, with some of the humans the aliens have conducted medical experiments looking pretty amazing, the good array of weapons and health packs around help you dispatch most of them pretty easily. All up a good game, I only found one graphic bug with an end of level monstor being invisible at times. The inclusion of multiplayer should mean many many more hours play well after you complete the single player game.

This game is a good price at the moment thats why i got it its a good shooting game with good levels but its just the same as any other shooter and lacks individuality. The game does have some good parts that are fun but it will leave you wanting much more.

It is definately one of those games I wouldnt have looked at if it wasnt so cheap. The only reason I bought it was because I wanted to spend ALL my money. This game is more than worth it. Graphics arent suburb, but story and gameplay are unrivalled by most other alien/horror games. Even if the game was selling for $80, with what I know now i would still buy it. Im not one for Horror games, but this falls in a whole new category. Its not particularly scary but it gives you the chillswhen you set the controller down. I found myself waking up at 2 in the morning to rejoin the world of PREY as soon as I could. Surprising for the price you pay.

Buy this game. The plus side, is that if you dont like it, you can make a profit on Trade Me.

This game had me hooked right away with its different approach to fps. I really enjoyed the different gravity experiences, and the spirit walk was an extremely innovative idea as it added a whole different element to the game and the way you played. I also liked the way you're not told exactly what you had to do, and had to figure it out foryourself!

I am playing this game at the moment, it was at such a good price I thought what have I got to lose? I am not the best at FPS but I have finished a few games so not rubbish! Good story line and a twist when you get into the game that is welcome, just when you are thinking what do I do next! So thanks Mighty Ape for having such a good game up for sale, got to post this cos I am off to play Prey again!!

This is your typical Run and Gun first person shooter. If you were not into doom you might find it hard enjoying the game.

Graphics:9.5 A­mazing Visuals Built from the Doom 3 Engine. Using unique ideas such as organic weapons and environments, puts you right into the action of the game. The use of Portals and Gravity is also a plus. Walking on walls sometimes can seem very disoritenting.

Sound:9.0 If you have the equipment (home Theatre Surround) this game will blow your mind. Very creepy and mechanical atmosphere make the surreal environments come to life.

Gameplay:8.0 The whole idea of organic weapons, Portals and aliens make for a great game…But the length of this game isnt that long. Its about 10–15 hours play time which is the basis for all shooters these days so don't be surprised if you finish the game and just leave it in the shelf. Another note its just a bit too easy especially for veterans of the genre. Fortuantely there is a very fun multiplayer, that many people play.....Unfor­tunately it is plagued by lag(hopefully they'll fix it).

Overall Prey is a great experience…although there are a few flaws it still is a great game to play.

An old game from 2006. Ancient today, but bought cheap online so what can I say. Not a favourite but one of those games that is mere filler in a gamers' collection.

Imensely intuitive design and brilliant gameplay cant ask for much more from a FPS, enjoy the gravity manipulation and interesting re-imagined weaponry
