When a game of King Kong was announced, I was at first somewhat skeptical as game licences based on movies usually fail to live up to expectations. But once I heard that Peter Jackson had a hand in overseeing the game from day one I became more intrigued.
Having received my excellent copy of King Kong: Collectors Edition, I can report that I need not have worried. This special pack contains a wonderful gold tin casing, artwork and a bonus ‘making of’ DVD featuring Peter Jackson and the designers of Ubisoft.
The designers state that they had two aims for this game: to make you go “wow” and to make you cry at the end. Just like a real life movie. Well, playing the game certainly makes you go “wow” and a few other choice words.
You are completely immersed in the jungle of Skull Island as Jack, interacting with Ann Darrow, Carl Denham and a couple other members of your crew. I love the way the game is completely playable as you make your way through the dense undergrowth of what must be the hellest jungle on earth.
Using your bare neccessaties and some verbal wit from Carl, you make your way fighting off every creepy crawlie imaginable.
I have not finished the game so I guess you will have to accomplish that to see if it gets in touch with your feminine side but of what I have seen so far, I am very impressed.
Mr Jackson keeps raising the bar and we all wait with baited breath to see what he can do with Halo.
In the meantime, buy this game, watch the movie and long live the King!
