Description

This is a history of a little-known CIA office that discovered most of the Cold War Strategic secrets of the Soviet Union. It also produced more future leaders than any other office in the intelligence community. The book explains how two leaders at NPIC created and reinvigorated the culture that led to both of these outcomes.

Author Biography:

Jack O'Connor retired from CIA in 2013, after more than 30 years of service, managing and leading support, analysis, and staff organizations. He spent his first 15 years at NPIC, and the remainder serving in NIMA and NGA (The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency) the agency now responsible for national imagery and geospatial intelligence. Throughout his career, Jack received more than 25 awards, including the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement in 2004 and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Galileo Award in 2005. Prior to government service, Jack taught at colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area. He holds degrees from Delaware County Community College, St. Joseph's University, and Bryn Mawr College. Jack now focuses on developing analysts and leaders in the geospatial community and elsewhere. He has coached leaders and executives since 2008, and is an ICF-certified graduate of the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Program. He now brings his experience leading in environments of risk, volatility, and significant consequence to his work as coach, consultant, and researcher. He is available for talks and presentations, and can be reached at jpkoconnor554@gmail.com.
