"Stunning in black."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It's smaller, thinner and lighter than the regular old Grey Nintendo DS.

The buttons and control pad have changed. The buttons and d-pad now have a spongy feel to them. The Start and Select buttons have been moved, and they are very tiny, which I didn't like. Even the power button has been moved to the side, and it's no longer a button, it's a sliding springed switch like on the PSP.

The new screens are excellent and are pretty much the only reason to get a DS Lite if you own the older DS. The lowest level of brightness is the same as the old DS. The highest level of brightness is more than adequate.

The one curiosity I noticed is that colour reproduction on the news screens is different than the older screens. Colours appear to be bolder and brighter than before, even if you have the brightness set at it's lowest level. A lot of DS games that had a pastel colour palette look to them, no longer do. One thing is clear though, and thats that games look BETTER on the DS LITE.

Get the black one.

"A very worth while gaming investment!"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

I have always believed in Nintendo, they always release well priced and very enjoyable gaming consoles.

The DS Lite is a perfect travel companion, it is small, carries a good battery life (depending on screen brightness), and its games you can play for hours! This doesn't mean you should only use it for travel, you'll find your DS Lite is prefect for all occasions!

The touch screen is a great add-on too, for example in Pokemon HeartGold the touch screen is well integrated into the game (you play games, improve inventory browsing etc) which adds another level to the game.

The screen sizes are also good considering the size of the console.I believe there has also been a step up in the graphics capabilites too (not significantly, but still there), which is always a bonus.

Overall a very enjoyable console, for a good price, and with plently of fun games at your disposal it's a must have!

"1 Missed fact from previous rev"
4 stars"

Your forgetting the fact that you can only use the Browser on a DS Lite which you need to accept the Terms and Services (or whatever it is) to use WiFi games.

Description

Nintendo DS Lite, launching in Black, features brighter screens, is approximately two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and about 20 percent lighter. It also features a larger stylus and repositioned button layout, all the while maintaining all of the original Nintendo DS features, as well as screen size.

With impressive 3D rendered graphics, Nintendo DS delivers cutting-edge portable games for fans of any genre. Plus, you can play all your favorite Game Boy Advance games in a single-player mode.

System

With Nintendo DS, dual screens and touch-screen technology allow you to interact with games like never before. Wireless communication allows you to experience real-time multiplayer gameplay, while built-in PictoChat software gives you the power to draw, write and send messages wirelessly. Nintendo DS revolutionizes the way games are played.

Dual Screens

Two LCD screens offer one of the most groundbreaking gameplay advances ever developed.

Imagine the possibilities. In a racing game, you might see your own vehicle's perspective on one screen and an overall track view on the other. Soon, games could be created allowing you to play games on one screen while sending text messages on the other.

Each 3-inch screen can reproduce a true 3D view, with impressive 3D renderings that can surpass images displayed on the Nintendo 64.

Touch Screen Technology

The lower screen offers something never before provided by any dedicated game device: touch-screen capabilities.

You no longer have to rely on just buttons to move your character or shift perspectives. Navigate menus or access inventory items simply by touching the screen with a stylus or fingertip. The possibilities are limited only by developers' imaginations.

The touch screen features a tougher film cover for durability, and the included stylus is stored in the back of the unit.

Microphone Port

A built-in microphone port means that with Nintendo DS, you only need to tell your games what to do.

Developers could create games which identify everything from voice commands to hand-clapping. Imagine moving your characters simply by telling them which way to go! Communication-based games could use the microphone and you can chat with others over a local network, or even the Internet in the future.

The Nintendo DS microphone gives you even more ways to interact with your favorite games.

Wireless Network

You can connect with a local wireless network of up to 16 players. The wireless range can be an incredible 30 to 100 feet and for some games, multiplayer requires just one Nintendo DS game card.

Future games may take advantage of the DS Wireless LAN connection for more multiplayer possibilities.

Note: Nintendo DS wireless communication, including PictoChat, is not private and is not monitored by Nintendo. We recommend that you never reveal any personal information or arrange to meet a stranger.

Rich Stereo Sound

Nintendo DS sound capabilities allow for greatly expanded use of voices and music, and a richer, more immersive game experience.

Stereo speakers allow for virtual surround sound and a plug for headphones transmits stereo sound. Hear something in your left headphone? Audio clues can give you advance warning that an enemy is approaching or that a hidden secret is nearby.

Sound can be one of the most immersive components of any video game, and Nintendo DS delivers big sound in a small package.

Backward Compatibility

Nintendo DS features a separate media port for Game Boy Advance cartridges. Nintendo DS allows you to play all your favorite Game Boy Advance games in a single-player mode.
