"Should be a lot better"
2 stars"

Tough to play.

I find i'm always messing with the camera view to see whats going on, and the character AI is next to useless, which means activating puppet mode is essential. Left to their own devices fighter characters will run ahead of your rogue to set off traps and alert the bad guys and wizards love getting themselves killed in hand to hand combat.

This requirement for micro-managing your party along with the annoying camera really makes for hard work.

The whole game system seems to have gone backward compared to ‘Baldurs gate II’ etc in terms of user friendliness and enjoyment of the game. I'm giving up on it and I reckon I'm about a 10th of the way through.

The game would be good if they got these issues sorted, which they should be able to do given they're not afraid to make you download hundreds of megs of patches.

"2 damage * critical hit - LvL 1 Char LOL"

This game although fairly pointed out to being a bit rough – kinda true, its nice to see a game company who makes patches not just to fix what is not correct, but to go out of its way to make things better. Check out graphics of say NWN2 and NWN2 after all patches, quite different / faster load time / optimized engine, the original follows this.

And here you get 2 games, 2 expansion packs – i still have NWN and its expansions on my computer mostly for delving into the deadly traps of the underdark , and fighting demons and saving aribeth killed in the main story.

The second one is not to be missed, there is easily 80hours + worth of content here, not counting user addons and the content creator, good multi player/co- op support. and can be run on old computers/hard ware , with the ablity to slow combat right down so it can be played on annoying laptops with those strange mouse solutions. – but still looks good.

This game is really recommended at least once, i showed the game to my gf who then played for a weekend following the main story.

And this still reminds me of a game developer not afraid to put real depth and content into its games, that has got a story department with skilled writers.

Then there is the satisfaction of building a level 20 – 40 char who is an unstoppable engine of death, at which point your companions are used as pack horses.

Recommended for anyone wanting to see where Modern RPG's on the computer really came from

Neverwinter Nights

Neverwinter Nights is a new Advanced Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game from BioWare, the developers of Baldur's Gate. Neverwinter Nights has not only been designed specifically for the online, multiplayer environment and the latest in 3D technology but it also allows you to experience all the magic of pen-and-paper Dungeon-Mastering on your home computer. Using Neverwinter Nights' powerful and user-friendly Solstice Toolset, you can create and populate entire new modular worlds and stories for others to adventure in. Even better, enter a multiplayer module as a Dungeon Master (DM) and you can alter the plot, possess characters, and manage combat from behind the scenes, all in real-time.

While Neverwinter Nights is a multiplayer online game, this is not the same as a massively multiplayer, persistent online world such as Ultima Online or EverQuest.

Neverwinter Nights has modeled its gameplay on the rich experience of pen-and-paper roleplaying: a small group of adventurers huddling around a table as their Dungeon Master weaves them into a tale of suspense, intrigue, and great daring.

With this goal in mind, Bioware has chosen to tell the Neverwinter Nights story through a series of self-contained, tightly crafted modules, each of them representing an evening's play. These modules are not linked into a linear chain, like beads along a string. Instead, they have been grouped into four clusters or 'environments.' Within each environment, you are free to play whichever modules you want, whenever you want, and in whatever order. If a bunch of friends are getting together to play 'The Bloodsail Conspiracy' module, go join them. Or if you've been wanting to try the 'Of Sons and Fathers' module instead, give it a shot.

Neither module is required to complete the story but each will give you different insights into the plot and may have an impact on how charactersrespond to you later in the game. Once you have completed enough modules within the environment, a special Hub Module will become available to you. This Hub Module serves as a portal between environments and completing it opens up a new cluster of modules for you to choose from.

Many people believe that multiplayer gaming and a strong focus on story exist at opposite ends of a spectrum. Yet Neverwinter Nights features a recurring cast of complex and memorable characters in an epic story that's rich with hopes, deceptions, and trials of faith. At the same time, our entire tale has been built from the ground up to provide an unsurpassable multiplayer experience. In Neverwinter, you get the best of both possible worlds.

In addition, the expansion pack equips amateur module makers with additional content for the Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset, the groundbreaking software included with the full game that allows you to create your own universes, quests and storylines. The toolset will be augmented with all new tile sets for creation of new environments as well as new "Wizards," or automated guides, to help you build and play adventures of your own creation.

  • Neverwinter Nights Expansion Pack: The Hordes of the Underdark

Please note that this is an Expansion Pack and requires the original Neverwinter Nights to play.

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark is the second expansion for the revolutionary role-playing game Neverwinter Nights. BioWare has created a dark and dangerous world of adventure set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. Your hands are callused from many years of weapon play, your mind is sharp from hundreds of books studied, your feet are nimble from slipping unseen and unheard past thousands of guards and your faith is unshakable in the gods you worship... but will it be enough for this final terror? Will you stand once more for those who cannot? You are the last hope for the Forgotten Realms, you must face the unstoppable, you must decide the fate of all. You are a hero... but are you a legend? Epic levels, new prestige classes, new creatures, spells, feats, weapons and new tilesets to explore... endless adventure!

The world is ignorant. Most will sleep away the blackest night and awake to welcome the new light of dawn secure that the light always returns. Not for all. Deep under the crust of humanity and civility is a place where nightmares never rest. Years have passed since the war between Luskan and Neverwinter, almost enough time for the wounds of war to heal. But the brief peace the Realms have known may be at an end. Tension growing between the mighty city-states means the Sword Coast again teeters on the edge of open war. Unnoticed, a greater danger stalks the City of Skilled Hands. Unbeknownst to the denizens of the North, deep in the Mere of Dead Men, dark forces from across the Realms have been rallied under the banner of a legendary evil. If left unchallenged, all of the North is doomed to fall under its power.

Even in this darkest hour, hope remains. A mysterious relic is borne to Neverwinter in the hands of a lone hero so that its secrets may be unlocked - secrets that carry the fate of all the North. So begins an epic tale of shattered alliances, noble acts and dark deeds to be told across the Realms for generations to come.
