Description

Moses Grandy (c1786-? ) was born a slave in Camden County, North Carolina, the youngest of his siblings. He was first hired to Mr. Kemp who was generous with him then his next master was Jemmy Coates, a severe man. After that Mr. Enoch Sawyer hired him and when Grandy got married, his master sold his wife. In 1833 he escaped from the South. He published his autobiography Narrative of the Life of Moses Grandy in 1843.
