Although you not know the name Koji Igarashi, his Castlevania games for Konami are renowned for their ingenuity. Nanobreaker is a fast-paced action game, using the popular sci-fi theme of a future where once-helpful machines revolt against their human masters. In this case, the year is 2015 and an experiment in nanotechnology is about to go horribly wrong.
You see in Nanobreaker there is an incredible twist to the tale: the enemy is microscopic! They use their bizarre size-advantage to infect people's blood, then turn mankind against itself! To get around the fact that they're at risk while so tint, they create an army of infected humans to strip buildings of metal to create an army of monster machines.
The hero, Jake Warren, is a condemned cyborg soldier who wields a powerful, shape shifting 'plasma blade' to combat the nano-machines. By performing specific combos, the blade transforms into various forms - including a hammer or an axe. Jake can also use stricken, larger machines to create secondary forms of attack. Nanobreaker is heavily action-oriented, but caters for novice and expert players alike with both Easy and Advanced Combo modes.
Nanobreaker enjoys a stunning level of detail throughout and offers the king of kick-ass gameplay we've learned to expect from Mr Igarashi and Co. As you cut a swathe through wave after wave of out-of-control nano-machines, ever more detail and larger adversaries come into play.
