Description

Until now there has been no detailed study of the settlement and subsistence patterns of the Gawara Aboriginal people of Northern Australia. Rather than being a traditional ethnographic study that presents the results of artefact distributions or discard patterns for example, Pickering focuses on the land-use and settlement patterns of the Gawara, assessing their perceptions and exploitation of the environment and physical landscape. This volume contains useful data for comparative study and highlights how the processes revealed in studies such as this can be used in developing models for prehistoric huter-gatherers.
