Description

Enter the Mirrorscape - an amazing world limited only by the artist's imagination...Fulfilling the dream of a lifetime, Melkin Womper is apprenticed to a master painter, Ambrosius Blenk. Son of a village weaver, Mel is over-awed by the master's richly coloured and vividly detailed paintings. He is particularly amazed by the colours, because there are no colours back home. To have colour in your life, you have to buy the Pleasure, and the sinister scarlet-robed Fifth Mystery own the rights to such Pleasures. Soon, Mel and his new friends Ludo and Wren find themselves caught in a power struggle between the Mystery and the master. One that involves stepping through paintings into a world where the bizarre is commonplace and all logic is irrelevant. A world where angels, pyramid mazes, imaginary monsters, talking houses and - most importantly - the simple paintbrush all combine to form a hugely original and deeply compelling fantasy. This is a thrilling adventure filled with fantastical creatures in an incredibly visual secret world.

Mike Wilks founded his own very successful graphic design company, TWD in 1970, and in 1975 started a second career as an illustrator and writer. He is inspired by Bosch, Brueghel, Escher and Dadd. He has had eight books of illustration work published, two of which were bestsellers, including The Ultimate Alphabet, which was in the Sunday Times bestseller chart for 57 weeks, sold 750,000 copies worldwide and was WHSmith's 'most shop-lifted title'. The BBC made an award-winning documentary about his work in the early 90s and there have been four one-man exhibitions of his work. His work is in a number of permanent collections, including the V&A and Museum of Modern Art in New York and his artwork is bought by collectors across Europe and the US. (Sir Tim Rice is among his many fans.) Mike lives in London and has been creating the world of Mirrorscape for ten vears...
