Description

Excerpt from Minutes of Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers: Session 1863-64 The door leading from the light - room to the outer gallery is generally made to open outwards, which is inconvenient when it is blowing hard. In these lighthouses the door is made to slide, one half of one of the wide panels running on rollers behind the other half. Some careful workmanship is required to make the door air-tight when closed; but, on the whole, it is believed to be an improvement on the ordinary practice.
