Those who are practically aware of the continuous and minute attention necessary towards the due execution of a task of this kind, will understand the harassing nature of such impediments. In editing and illustrating Strype's text, he has considered it a matter of obligation to conform to the general plan adopted in the preceding volumes. He has availed himself of the notes transferred to his care by the former Editor; but as he is of course wholly responsible for their correctness and due application, they have been revised and corrected throughout, his own judg ment being exercised as to retrenchments and additions. The latter are not numerous. The only document of this part of the work which has not been collated with the original is Morice's declaration concerning Cranmer, pp. 357 - 374.
