"Let down by irritating controls"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Lost Planet is a 3rd person shooter and Mech simulation, that is reasonably pretty to look at, but not stunning by any means.

The good news is that the alien species you mainly fight are good looking and have some cool features (the rolling beetle is particularly cool). On foot, your character has a handy grappling hook which adds a little variety to battles.

The bad news is that the Mechs are pretty boring, but worse are a pain in the ass to control. Firstly they are frustratingly unresponsive; secondly the control scheme means it is astonishingly easy to make a mistake in the thick of battle: namely, the button that allows you pick up a new weapon is the same button that ejects you from the Mech. So if you overshoot the pickup point … all of a sudden you are standing defenceless in front of a 50 metre-tall drooling insectoid.

There is the germ of a good game in Lost Planet, but it is overwhelmed by a poorly thought out control system.

"Ammusing but quite tedious"

Lost planet was fun for the first half an hour but the game makes you run around in a massive landscape with a tiny exit on the otherside gets quite annoying

Great shooter game, really enjoyed the style of game play. Reasonable length game and missons, good control system. Differaculty settings could have been more consistent. Over all a great game

Lost Planet is old but good, the graphics still hold up. The explosions are still spectactular. Your character Wayne moves realistically, stumbling and stomping through the snow. Vital Suits are mechs made to combat the native Akrid. Chain gun totting mechs and giant aliens intent on you death, what more could you ask for?
