Literacy is the first goal of all education. The Ross Lattner Literacy series provides teachers and students with literacy exercises to complement the Grade Nine Science series. This book complements the Ross Lattner books "Explaining Reproduction" and "Exploring Reproduction." Simple and effective worksheets are provided here for the teacher and student to take advantage of opportunities to teach and learn literacy skills while immersed in scientific activities.

Author Biography

Michael Lattner the business manager for Ross Lattner Educational Consultants, and one of our authors. Mike conducted new product development, production, marketing and financial activities. Mike has been teaching secondary science since 1987, initially at Nicholson Catholic College. He later held the position of Coordinator of Secondary School Reform at St. Paul Catholic Secondary School in Trenton, ON. He is now responsible for teacher mentoring and electronic delivery of education for the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. Before teaching, Mike was a Wildlife Biologist and worked for the Grand River Conservation Authority in Cambridge, ON, and Ducks Unlimited Canada in Kingston, ON. In 1988 Mike traveled around the world with his wife and two daughters. They visited 19 countries and traveled more than 40,000 km. Jim Ross has 35 years' experience in secondary science education, both in private and public school systems. For six years he was the Coordinator of Investigative Studies at Nicholson Catholic College, Belleville, ON, where his portfolio included science, math, history, geography, and the social sciences. In 1991, Jim relocated to London, ON, to complete an M.Ed in curriculum, with a focus on the cognitive structure of students' natural thinking about science topics. For three years, Jim was on secondment from the London Catholic District School Board, teaching the chemistry and physics methods courses to teacher candidates at the University of Western Ontario. He retired from full-time secondary teaching to pursue interests in science education publising. Jim is responsible for product design, development, and finishing.
