Excerpt from Lineage Book, Vol. 30: 29001 30000, 1899 Several preceding volumes of this series have lacked the records of a number of members and this volume is no exception. Up to the date of going to press, no answers have been received to letters sent months ago, asking for information which might have com pleted some of these records. In such cases it has seemed better to print nothing than to print something with the risk that it might prove to be erroneous. To do this would destroy the value of the book, which must be authentic if it is to serve the purpose for which it was designed. By the time that a second edition is printed it may be possible to insert what is necessarily omitted now. This is the twenty-ninth volume prepared by the present compiler. As it also completes the thirtieth thousand of the society's member ship, it has seemed fitting to mark the occasion by adding to the title-page the name of one whose patient care has made all these volumes what they are.
