"The Multiplayer Rocks!"

If you have played the first Lego Star Wars you will know exactly what this game is like. Your home place as in the first version is Mos Eisly Cantina where you can buy your characters and special extras. In Mos Eisly Cantina you can also customize a character. Lego Star Wars II includes episodes IV, V and VI (4, 5, 6). With 5 chapters in all episodes that makes 15 action packed levels, some short, some long. But there is always the inner secret to each level.

There are also Lego Minikit Canisters with 10 to collect in each level. When you get 10 canisters in a level you unlock a bounty hunter for Multiplayer Arena Play. In the Arena Play there are two levels (to my experience) Jabba's Palace and Tatooine streets (not so sure of the name). In Jabba's Palace you can do a deathmatch and capture the flag (the flag is Han Solo in carbonite). Another Multiplayer mode is Cooperative play where you can go through the levels together though which is most unfortunate is that you will need 2 game cards to do this, but in the Arena play you will only need 1 game card as that version of multiplayer is DS Download Play.

"Witness the power of the DS!"

I was pleasantly surprised by Lego Star Wars II for the Nintendo DS.

I didn't think much of Lego Star Wars when I played it on the PC, PS2 or XBox 360, but the game works well for the handheld format for some reason.

The big surprise here is that the game is fully 3D, and doesn't look bad at all. Not that Lego Star Wars is known for outstanding graphics mind you.

The only real problem is that the resolution of the DS screen is too small. This is more apparent in this game where a lot of humour is supposed to come from character expressions and you lose that with lower resolution. Also, it's not readily apparent that the characters on screen are made from LEGO until they disintegrate, so you do lose a little of the “OMG they're made of LEGO!!” feeling that you immediately get when playing on higher resolution consoles or PC.

But the whole Lego Star Wars II experience is here on the DS, and that's enough to impress me.

Being only the second Star Wars game released for the DS, this is obviously the best one given that Revenge Of The Sith was pretty much a GBA port.

With that in mind you should pick this up if you are a Star Wars fan or someone who collects every single game made for Star Wars.

Description

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy combines the classic story of Star Wars with the endless customization of LEGO to create a wholly unique gaming experience that puts an unexpectedly comical twist on the Star Wars universe. Players can “build and battle” their way through the galaxy, reliving (and sometimes reinventing) favorite moments from the Star Wars Trilogy.

The epic story, characters and action are all there, and for the first time players can build and ride their own Star Wars vehicles, then get on and off of them to explore the interactive galaxy as envisioned by LEGO.

True to the LEGO experience, players can even customize their own Star Wars characters: It’s the world’s first opportunity to discover a Yodarth, a See-Chewpio or a Princess Obi-Wan Kejawa (or almost any variation imaginable).

Features:
  • And much more new to offer, it still has. For the first time ever, levels feature vehicles and creatures that players can ride or exit at will.
  • Also, in LEGO Star Wars II's Free Play mode, gamers can customize more than 50 new playable characters by mixing and matching body parts, to build their own LEGO Star Wars heroes.
  • And on certain platforms, a game save from the first LEGO Star Wars can unlock as many as 56 additional characters for Free Play -- that's more than 100 characters total, plus millions of possible creations!
  • Other exciting additions include the ability to Free Play with vehicles, cool new character-specific attacks and maneuvers, playable mini-kit vehicles, an optional advanced mode for experienced players and more.
