"The series that started slow, grew strong, ended flat"
3 stars"

Overall I am a fan of this series, I quite enjoy the characters and the universe they are cast in. However the positive connotations I've felt toward the the Legend of Korra wouldn't be as strong if it weren't for its predecessor which I adore. As such I'll do my best to review this series independently.

Given the production history of the series, for those who don't know, it was initially meant to be a single season series. Yes, that's right, the Legend of Korra was meant to end after the first 12 episodes. As a result I felt it to be rushed and ultimately failed to capture the essence that is Avatar. The second season is definitely when the series found its pacing and truly gained the foothold it needed, being followed by the third season only increased my anticipation for the finale.

And then it finally arrived. This is the biggest issue I have with Korra and the usage of time skips in recent years for other productions when they're placed so close to end of the programmes run. As an audience we are left to interpret and piece together the lives of the characters we've come to love. So much I feel is missing, and what we do get, while sentimental, just feels like a throw-in by the creators to say “hey, so this is what we've been doing for the past few years”.

Followed by a comparatively weak villain to season three, so much is left to be desired. While this certainly isn't true for everyone, I understand that, for many fans including myself, It's a shame that the Legend of Korra wasn't able to cement itself anywhere near to the same level as The Last Airbender. But as a standalone you really can't go wrong watching this series and would recommend it with a warning of possible disappointment.
