Excerpt from Junior Algebra for Schools Containing a Full Treatment of Graphs With Answers This edition, called Junior Algebra, is a modification of the new and enlarged eighth edition of 1907, of Elementary Algebra, by Messrs. Hall and Knight, and has been Specially adapted for Canadian Schools. One feature of the present edition is the large number of easy examples on the Theory of Quadratic Equations. In view of the importance of the Graphic Method a chapter giving a very simple and continuous treatment of the subject has been placed at the end of the book. Teachers who wish to intro duce graphs at an earlier stage will find suggestions at the begin ning of Chapter XXXV., as to the best way to proceed. In graphi cal work it is most important that squared paper should be used, good in quality and accurately ruled to inches and tenths of an inch. Experience shows that anything on a smaller scale (such as millimetre paper) is practically worthless in the hands of be ginners. As the subject of ratio and proportion is begun at an earlier stage in Geometry than formerly, it has been thought wise to give a brief treatment of this subject so that the Algebraic method may supplement the Geometrical. All names such as duplicate, subduplicate, etc., have been excluded. As ratio is closely related to fractions, chapter XXXIV.
