Description

We watch from our windows and wonder: -Is something coming to threaten our homes?-What in the world would it look like?-Could it already be here? Invasions on Hickory Road is a mystical yet insightfully comic story of dark intrusions that come to a sunny suburban neighborhood. When the families on Hickory Road learn about a home invasion in the next town, their first frightened impulse is to arm themselves against outside attackers. What they don't realize is that invasions can come from inside their neighborhood as well as from outside, and that they are already endangered by the unknown secrets of Hickory Road itself. Most dangerous of all: in the basement of the empty house at number 16 a trapdoor opens down into a labyrinthine series of tunnels that lead to - nobody knows where or what.

Author Biography:

Jim Delay has been described as a very funny man (this is not always an insult) for his award winning newspaper and magazine humor writing. His articles have been used in many college writing classes as examples of excellence in satire. After writing on the triumph of bad taste, the weirdness of political campaigning, the cushy lives of household pets, and the impenetrable smugness of the clergy, it's probably not surprising that he would write a comic novel about home invasion. In previous incarnations, Jim Delay has been a reporter, writer, and editor for Life magazine where he covered the White House, the Congress, the manned space program, the civil rights movement, and reported on science, medicine, sports, entertainment, and more hurricanes, fires, and floods than he expected. Jim has been editorial director for both CBS and ABC (although not simultaneously). He is also founder and managing director of Syntax: The Word Company, a consulting firm that specializes in corporate communications, and in encouraging companies to avoid pomposity. He lives on Cape Cod, but sometimes revisits a house where he once lived, far away on Hickory Road.
