Description

Excerpt from Immensee Up to his eighteenth year Storm attended the Latin school of his native town, and then the gymnasium in Liibeck, where he entered into close friendship with one of his classmates, the talented Emanuel Geibel, who was destined to become one of Germany's fore most lyric poets. By him Storm's love for poetry was awakened, and Goethe, Uhland, Eichendorff, and Heine began to exert an influence upon him, which he never outgrew. From 1837 to 1842 he studied juris prudence, first at the University of Kiel, the capital of schleswig-holstein, and subsequently at Berlin. In 1843, together with the brothers Theodor and Tycho Mommsen, he published a volume of poems under the title Liederbuch dreier Freunde, in which he appears as a disciple Of the Romantic school, more especially as a follower of Joseph von Eichendorff and the Romantic apostate Heinrich Heine. For the following ten years (1843-1853) he practised law in Husum, and established a comfortable and exceedingly happy home, having married his cousin, Constanze Esmarch. In 1851 appeared his S ommergeschzchten and Lieder, and in 1852 the tale Immensee. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
