Excellent album. The bonus disc is fantastic, you can't beat the live version of ‘England’,and love ‘You Were A Kindness’ which incredibly was unreleased before this. Highly recommend it.

Description

The National have an eager and ravenous fanbase in New Zealand. Their 2011 show sold out on pre-sales alone. The second show sold out before being announced! And the third show a mere couple of days later!

To quell the hunger until the January 2011 shows The National have revealed they will release an expanded edition of the hugely successful fifth studio album High Violet. High Violet Expanded Edition will be made available as a double-CD package. As well as the original eleven-track album, the expanded version will be come with a limited edition bonus disc of eight songs featuring an alternate version of High Violet opening track ‘Terrible Love’, two brand new tracks ‘Wake Up Your Saints’ and ‘You Were A Kindness’, b-sides ‘Walk Off and ‘Sin-Eaters’ as well as three live recordings. The eight-song disc will also be available to purchase as a digital download.

Recording for High Violet took place at the band’s own studio in Brooklyn, with further recording and mixing at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut with Peter Katis (Interpol, Spoon). Five friends from Cincinnati, Ohio who met again after they all relocated to Brooklyn, New York, The National has been together since 1999. Their work has garnered critical praise and their last two albums Alligator and Boxer opened them to a wider audience.
