Come, says Jesus, with your laboring and heavy laden souls, and I will give you rest; for I will show you that religion is not to do this act or that, in this way or in another but to live justly and mercifully, and with humble devoutness and this every man can do in his own soul. This only is my yoke, to be meek and lowly of heart which is an easy yoke and a light burden because truly it is in accordance with the nature of the soul. Now this you see sets peace in the state of the mind and not in any outward doings or fortunes. Now peace is the blessing the world calls for. DO not you wish peace? Has not Heaven always been thought of as a rest? Herbert says that weariness shall toss us to the breast of our Father. Who of you is not tired often? Who of you wages not a strife which sometimes is exhausting? To beat peace, to have a quiet mind, - this always has been a great need, and sought anxiously.
