Guitar Hero II (includes guitar) reviews

Guitar Hero is one of the most entertaining games I've played for ages, and there are some really classic songs on here.

To the reviewer below, I don't think the developers ever claimed that this game would make you into a fantastic guitar player…IT IS A GAME. Its all well and good saying what a developer should do, but whats next, give video game players a real gun and have real aliens running around in your lounge so you can actually kill them??…IT IS A GAME.

And a really fun one. You will play it over and over, always trying to beat your high scores. You won't regret the purchase.

When you first see Guitar Hero, you will have doubts, it's inevitable. Well give yourself a good smack to the head right now, because you NEED this game, no really you do. Guitar hero has to be one of the most addictive and satisfying games around on the 360 right now.

True at first it appears gimmicky, and even a bit laughable as you imagine yourself playing the thing, but once it's in your hands, all of the internal chatter stops dead, as you look down with a dumb grin on your face and scream “HELL YEAH” to all around you.

When you play Guitar Hero you really do forget that it is a game, you quite literally become a rock star. The geniuses at RedOctane that have really pulled it off, the amount of work put into the guitar as well as all the grungy and visuals used in the game is amazing.

Not only can you press the buttons along the front of the guitar, but to make you feel even more of a rock god, when you are playing a song, if you hit certain sets of notes you build up your star power gauge, a combo multiplier which is set off in rocktastic fashion by holding your guitar vertically, preferably while screaming “Oow!” Or maybe that's just me.

The only downside (through no fault of Red Octane) is that your controller is wired, in a day and age of wireless. This is due to Microsoft's pro­prietary wireless format for the console, which they are currently not opening to any third party peripherals at this stage.

If there was ever a game to truly be seen and played to be understood, then this is it. Go rent it, hell just buy the thing, you'll never regret it!

The title of this game is misleading.

It really should be called “Keytar Hero”, not “Guitar Hero” since the “instrument” the player play's has far more incommon with the keytar as seen in music videos for Pseudo Echo's “Funky Town” or Bobby Brown's “My Prerogative”.

At the base of all this lies a rythym game with rock music, which can be played with the (sic) guitar style controller or with the XBOX 360 controller.

Now, if this game were any good you should be able to have just as much fun with it without using the guitar controller.

What the developer should do is release an actual six string guitar controller with a midi-interface in place of pickups, and this would allow for a TRUE Guitar Hero experience rather than this dumbed down rythym game presented here. This could have the added side benefit of teaching a person how to play. In it's current form the game merely makes players looks like twats.

I've had my copy of GH2 for almost a week now, and have been playing it CONSTANTLY!! Its probably one of the best games ever released for ANY platform IMHO. You can get a feel for how the songs should be played and where you should be hitting notes instantly.

Beginners can pick it up, have a go and feel satisfied that they can keep practising and move up to the next level.

For the Keytar guy, sure its never gonna be the same as sitting down and wailing out some huge, bonecrunching riffs on my Strat (yup, I play the real thing as well), but for sheer enjoyment and a fantastic time for a whole group of people sitting around, this is THE game to have.

GH.....its an institution! Cant wait for GH Metallica!!!!

Awesome :D I ordered yesterday and got it today, came all in good packaging… The guitar is awesome, the game is just mint :D

Also everyone loves it, all my friends seem to be more interested in the guitar than the owner :P

A great game, however as a reviewer below posted, The game is not made my microsoft so xbox have no input into the controller or game design.

Truely wonderful game, but i have found the Xbox guitar very, very uncomfortable to use. Its not user friendly, without you nearly snapping off your wrists. The PS2 guitar however, is much more comfortable to use as i have found, due to the design. So Xbox, get back to the drawing board.

Just cool fun, a real change of pace on Xbox 360. Even better for laughs with a group of friends. All the best things from karaoke but no need to be able to sing. Highly recommended.
