MARGARET WISE BROWN (1910-1952), best known as the author of Goodnight Moon, wrote countless children's books inspired by her belief that the very young were fascinated by the simple pleasures of the world around them. Among her many bestselling Golden titles are Mister Dog, The Color Kittens, The Golden Egg Book, Seven Little Postmen, and The Sailor Dog. LEONARD WEISGARD (1916-2000) frequently collaborated with his close friend Margaret Wise Brown. He was awarded the 1947 Caldecott Medal for The Little Island (Doubleday), written by Margaret Wise Brown under the pseudonym Golden MacDonald. That same year, Alvin Tresselt's Rain Drop Splash (Lothrop), also illustrated by Weisgard, was named a Caldecott Honor Book.
