Well looks like for this game it already needs patches !! A rock solid MS release :-)
I can't run it, its keeps crashing with “Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error”. checking the forums it would appear a lot of people are having this problem.
My PC is well above the spec listed, also other games (MS) are running fine.
Can't comment on how it plays becous it won't start, but it would seem the release is not good.
I remember seeing the ad for this game on the 360 and thinking if there ever was a game to come to the pc it should be this one! I was surely mistaken this game is riddled with bugs, poor optimization, the stuttering problem, your forced to use ms live service with creates even more problems with random crashes, save games disappearing or the game not starting at all.
On top of all of this neither Epic or Microsoft has done anything to fix the problems there has been 2 patches since march 2008 and neither one has fixed the problems your pretty much on your own in the support department SO BUYER BEWARE BUY THIS GAME AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! Don't expect any help from epic for you will receive NONE what so ever :(
I had very low expectations for this game and it surprised me,it looks very nice and has a gritty atmospheric feel to it. Doesn't seem to like SLI much,a lot of pauses with SLI enabled,but seemed pretty stable otherwise. Didn't get the hang of throwing hand grenades,and seemed a pretty dumb way to impliment it to me,but overall I enjoyed it and will more than likely buy the next one.
Actually I would rate it four and half stars.
This game was originally on the Xbox 360 platform, and it was regarded as one of the best game of all time on 360. Gears of War also showcased what ‘next-gen’ gamings is all about.
They have done an exellent job bringing Gears of War to PC. It uses updated UT3 engine resulting in better graphic than 360 (as long as your computer can handle it), plus keyboard and mouse control feels natural, and don't forget about new chapter exclusive to PC with an amazing boss battle.
However, it seems there are some problems with the game. Some people are experiencing game crashes when starting the game using DVD launcher (in menu screen). Also some people are experiencing stuttering issues, as well as save/checkpoints dissapearing problems.
Dispite those problems, this is still an excellent game even after a year from original release. New multiplayer maps and mode is another bonus! If you like hardcore action shooter, try this game!
