Description

This is a stunningly repackaged edition of Mary Shelley's classic gothic horror story. Few narratives can rival the way in which Shelley's gothic masterpiece captured the human imagination. The enduring appeal of the tale created its own monster in the form of the myriad of gory adaptations and whimsical pastiches of the work. These can lead one to forget the powerful, engrossing and thought-provoking nature of the original. In Frankenstein, the creature that has become the grotesque caricature we all know so well raises pertinent questions about science and responsibility that are more relevant today than ever before.

Author Biography

Mary Shelly was born into a family of intellectuals. At the age of 17 she met P.S. Shelley and they began an affair; they were married after the suicide of Shelley's first wife. The couple famously spent a summer with Byron and Polidori near Geneva, and it was here, at the age of ninetten, that she conceived the idea for Frankenstein.
