"Great Game"
4 stars"

I disagree with the previous 2 comments.

I was a HUGE fan of the other 2 Fallout games (not counting Tactics or BoS), and only mildly amused by Oblivion. I think Bethesda have done a great job. There is a bunch of humour in the game, and the graphics are great.

Reading the other comments i feel like maybe i was playing a different game =P I do agree that the main storyline is short, but there a HUGE number of side quests, and many different ways to do things.. You could spend (literally) hours exploring just the ruins of DC alone.

The sneak skill is one of the most useful.

The ability to pause at any time to apply a stimpack (health regen) makes combat relativley trivial, but overall a fantastic game which i have loved playing and look forward to any expansion.

Only thing that stops me from giving it 5 stars is the crashing issues which i hope will be resolved soon in a patch.

"A MUST HAVE!!!"
5 stars"

This game is awesome! It is almost perfect once you get the patch and its very addictive. The funniest part is when you have a high sneak skill, and you pick-pocket a foe and stick a live grenade in there pocket, then watch as they jump around then boom!. It even works on the bosses!!!

The Graphics look great on my P4 and runs smooth too. There are many ways to play too, like melee fighting, shooting, throwing grenades or using nukes. you can also avoid some fights simply by having a high speech skill and talking them out of it.

Windows live is also great too as its integrated right in and every milestone earns you points. you can also get the add-ons as well which on the 3rd one in March will let you go past the end of the main quest and adds 10 more levels to the level cap, bringing it from 20 to 30.

All in all this is one of those games that are gonna get a game of the year award and become a classic.

"Awesome game, but not for everyone."
5 stars"

Excellent game, I am totally addicted. But it's the type of game where you will either love it or hate it.

Things you'll definitely love:

  • Graphics are incredible (assuming you have a decent PC). I have everything on maximum at 1920×1200 and it's just spectacular.
  • Interactivity with EVERYTHING. You can interact with almost every object and destroy almost anything.
  • Hundreds of guns / apparel / consumables.
  • Fantastic storyline… play this game in the dark while you're alone and you'll immerse yourself more so than the average game.

Things some might like but might turn you off completely:

  • Long game, if you're looking for a quick shoot 'em up with no real thought or don't like organising your inventory – then move on.
  • Unrealistic in parts. Some of the physics don't make sense, also you can carry so much more than a person would actually be able to. But most of all you can basically pause time at any stage – and eat things / change guns / apparel etc during a battle. These things are necessary for the game but far from realistic.
  • Not much like the previous Fallouts. For me this was welcomed as I wasn't much of a fan of any of them.

This is the post apocalyptic game I always wanted. Countless directions, options, missions to choose from with graphics to match. And yourself and enemies are damaged by where you shoot them. Blow off a leg and they stumble around. Shoot the gun out of their hand and they come after you with the one fist they have left.

Easily 5/5.

"Fallout 3"
5 stars"

A very good game based on the fallout universe and Fallout fans should like it.

  • Good sense of atmosphere for the setting, good soundtrack which gives the game the feel it should.
  • Graphics are good. I've read some negative reviews about the graphics but I never bought this game expecting it to have next generation graphics. I ran the game on medium settings and the graphics are impressive for your general PC game.
  • Large assortment of weapons.
  • Large world to explore.
  • Very fun combat system which is a mix between a fps and the original turn based system. I thought the concept worked very well.

"Great Game"
5 stars"

Wow, this game is one out of the bag and it Rocks! You get to wander (first person or third person view) and fight in a huge, very atmospheric, non linear world. Creatures and characters that you come across on the land and in the outposts, can be friendly, neutral and others “not so kind”. It is a game where you are judged by the inhabitants on how you choose to treat them.

Weapons at your disposal are numerous and it is up to the player to maintain their effectiveness. Not all weapons will kill the tough enemies easily…you need to choose the best one for the job..which makes the game even more absorbing and rewarding.

The ingame V.A.T.S aiming system is great and the Pip Boy is very easy to understand with lots of information available to the player. Both are very easy to use.

There is loads to do in the game with many, many challenges and it has kept me pinned to my chair in the evenings since Christmas.

"... not the same... "

Fallout 3, its like a fallout post apocolyptic skinned oblivion.

Its missing the black humour its overly serious and none of the sidequests tie into the main quest like they did in the previous 2 games, the graphics are awesome. The gameplay is ok. Vats is pointless if your anywhere near ok at fps games, although can make the some battles easier, especially early on.

I reccommend not doing any of the questline past the GNR bit until you have done a crapload of the sidequests (and there are lots of them), because in true oblivion style you can finish the main questline in less than 2 hours. The end quest i didnt even realise was the end quest until i saw the cutscene, which was awesome but left me feeling ripped off a little. Although the reward for doing said sidequests is generally an OK piece of equipment or some more story behind the situation and history of DC during and post nuclear war.

If you played the 1st and 2nd fallout games you may find this game lacklustre, however if this is your first foray into the fallout storyline you may find this game superb.

Some of the skills seemed pointless (sneak anybody?), although i do admit running around putting live grenades in peoples back pocket was fun it hardly allowed me to do much more.

Your allies seem to only be there to die in interesting ways infront of you.

The leveling system is better than in oblivion.

I found the supermutants very lacking. In the older games unless you were geared to the teeth you really didnt want to encounter them, in F3 they are very common and very easy to beat even with simple weapons(pistol) + vats, or just say a hunting rifle with a half decent smallguns skill. 3 in the head you know hes dead.

I did enjoy this game, i overlooked the lack of humour, the fact that none of the sidequests tied into the main story line and that nomatter what you say to most people (no matter skill or alignment) the outcome is always the same. I overlooked all of this because well… it was a nice sidestory to the original games and blowing peoples heads off is 3 kinds of kickass. But then I finished the main questline. DONT DO IT unless you plan on playing through again, I couldnt bring myself to run through a complete second time because it was really similar to the first time around even though I changed my alignment from good to bad

Really Im just sick of games I cant spend 40–60 hours on the main quest. Gameplay >>>>>>> graphics…

TLDR: 4/5 for players new to the fallout series MUST PLAY if you havent played the other fallout games, BUT dont do the main questline past GNR/rivet it feels far too rushed after that. Spend your time on sidequests!!!!!!!

3/5 for players seasoned in the fallout series. DO play it if you have played the other fallout games! But dont expect the gold that were the original games.

I would say the main problem is that the original team (interplay iirc) didnt make this game… but we will never see the game they were making.

"Amazing Landscape"
4 stars"

The game was too much like Oblivion but I think the story was great for an RPG-FPS. MUST play on full detail – it will blow your mind.

  • You need a good computer to run it (at least a good video card). You don't want to run this game at minimum requirement.

"Good Played In A Nice Dark Place!"
5 stars"

Walking around the wasteland gets scary sometimes especially If you go into a dark vault and see a few nuclear mutated/modified humans or animals pop around the corner. This game is full of surprises though the main quest line is not long, its still worth the money. You don't even have to finish the game maybe explore a bit.

"RPG at its finest."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Fallout 3, is the 4th game in the high regarded fallout series. However, this addition is made by bethesda of Elder Scrolls fame.

With such a legendary name in RPG's, you expect fallout to come short. Well it doesn't, in my honest opinion this is the greatest single player RPG of all time.

Fallout 3 has so much to do, you can walk around the nuclear wasteland scavenging for armor and weapons, take missions from richly detailed characters. Be the wasteland savior, helping people. Or be the destroyer of humanity, killing everyone and taking everything from them.

The “Wasteland” as its called, is vast and huge. Set in the nuclear bombed state of Washington DC, the fallout universe takes on a gritty, and often comical theme.

You will easily lose hours, playing this game and experiencing all you can in the wasteland. I fully recommend this game to any RPG fan, or even a shooter fan for that matter. Its just that good

"Bring on the Wasteland"

Ultimately if you like the Fallout world and style then you will not be dissapointed. This game rocks!!!, you have to take the bloody mess perk just to watch the carnage and while I imagine you could finish the game pretty fast, its fun just cruising around blowing baddies (or goodies) away.

The only real down fall is that level progression is limited to level 20 and you get there quite fast (so don't bother taking swift learner perks)

The abilty to be good and bad (or really good or really bad) affects game play so I imagine there is a fair amount of replayablity

"Oblivion? Whats Oblivion???"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Fallout makes Oblivion look BORING! You get GUNS, EXPLOSIVES and HOMEMADE WEAPONS to destroy anyone(and i mean ANYONE) who wants to get in your way.

Choose the path of Good or Evil no matter the cost.

Great Game a must buy for FPS RPG fans if only it was online… Countless enemies, good story, fun missions, alot to explore and hours of playtime.

GoodLuck

"Never thought RPGs could be this addicting!"
5 stars"

I'm a hardcore ‘Far Cry/Crysis/COD4/Gears of War/Halo conditioned 'shooter gamer who used to look down on RPGs because I found them slow, boring and with awkward/simplistic shooting mechanisms. Well not anymore! Fallout 3 is one hell of a great game, more than immersive–it's downright addicting. It took me 90 hours to do all the main and side quests so its definitely worth the price. Those of you who struggle at the beginning of the game because of your character's helplessness and the useless weapons you start up with, give it some time. It took me at least 10 hours to 'get into the game’ and for some of you (especially if you're used to the fast pace of shooters) not used to the pace of RPGs, you'll need that adjusting time. Trust me its worth it when you've at level 20, with your small guns specialist, lock picking and repairs perks and skills maxed out to VAT sniper-shoot 10 charging super mutants in the head–effortlessly. The only thing I'd advise is make sure you download the appropriate bug patches. Aside from that, this game is perfect. Yup, it's that good. Never thought I'd ever say that about an RPG.

"Oblivion with Guns!"
5 stars"

If you love Oblivion then you will love this game even more. I mean imagine Oblivion with sub machine guns or rocket launchers. How about a mini nuke launcher!! throw in VAT system which allow you to blow mutant's head flying in slow motion (If that is not entertaining I don't know what is!!)

The graphics and the whole post nuclear theme is brilliant and yes they may be a few bugs and problems then and there but that's what patches are for.

If you have a decent gaming PC, then you definitely must own this game, It's oblivion with guns!! what else do you need??

"when in life can one pause? WHEN!!??"
4 stars"

It's very good, but not great, b/c there is no immersion in the fight sequences… The better the realism, the more involving and frantic and anxious fight sequences are as a result…

But in Fallout 3, you pause continuously (while I guess the world just stops for you, life seemingly dictated to by your omniscient control and ability to stop the world cos you can't think quickly enough, thus forcing you into not bothering to do so) and unleash a slowly-formulated attack (which you will probably repeat immediately cos your shit-arse stats make weapons unable suddenly to kill) that you then sit back and watch happen like an episode of Jackass…

In Far Cry 2 the fighting is sensational, b/c the health restoration, the weapons loading, unjamming, changing, the aiming, the shotting etc etc ALL occur in natural time… you know, like, um, LIFE!!

So Fallout 3 is, in the fighting, gimmicky and wanes with play pretty quickly, unless you are easily impressed, or equate the kill looking good, to being a good kill…

When a good kill, and a satisfying one, is a millisecond, snap-shot to the head from 20 metres as a bullet whizzes through the air past your head..... Fallout 3 can't replicate this kind of action.

and that, as Yoda said, is why you fail :)

7.5/10

Game of the year? Absolutely!! Just like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will win the Oscar for Best Film, when it is about the 79th in the list of anyone with taste. That, unfortunately, is the price you pay living in a world of mostly idiots.

"A Great Game gone astray"
2 stars"

If you've already played Oblivion then you will probably agree that this does feel like the same game with guns.

Unfortunatley even with the best intentions, Bethesda have gone astray. Otherwise if you've never played the original Fallout or Fallout2 (I played a few hours each) or Fallout: Tactics (I finished) then disregard the rest and have a look.

Graphics are a little intensive and it does mean that what you would have played Oblivion on with Good graphics will need a little more ‘juice’ to get the best effects out of Fallout 3. The plot is interesting but not vivid enough to keep you ‘involved’, and not too greatly written either. It's plot does, sadly, resemble the rescueing of the Emporer Uriel Septim's son (Oblivion), but in a twisted reverse plot… however credit must go to the map designers as the level of detail on the destructed landscape is incredible, to say the least. Well designed and wrought with monsters and post apocolyptic horrors. Mutants occupy the DC ruins, while Raiders and others occupy the outskirts, and even slavers are about.. somewhere. The game does lack any real strategy except in the case of VATS (targeting system) but then the short supply of various weapons, no modding capabilities, etc… all play against it. SubNote: I still can't find a Berette (9mm Pistol) or a Uzi but the same generic rifle, chinese rifle, pistol, sub machine gun (which looks like a pistol) etc… Realistically its not that bad a game, but this would have probably gone down better had it been released as something else, and not with the legacy of the Fallout Brand hanging over the production teams head. Overall, if you just want something interesting to play and aren't too fussed on complex details or such, this is for you.

"Bethesda murdered my childhood"
1 stars"

Graphics: 4/10 Gameplay: 0/10 Story: 3/10

The graphics are obviously just a rubber pip-boy mascot mask with “apokalips” written in crayon then stretched out over the Eldar Scrolls Oblivion engine, slowed down for suspense, and then slowed down some more. I cannot emphasise how unnecessarily slow the game motion is.

After the first hour of playing my eyes began burning from trying to make out the over-blurred visuals which I didn't even realise while playing. I loved the fallout series, and fallout 2 would be my favourite game, but sadly I feel that this instalment of the series has managed to cause me permanent brain damage.

The storyline was not captivating, and there was none of the classic humour the previous instalments had.

"Awesome"

30 core quests, loads of side missions, hidden bobble-heads, weapons and more.Hours of gameplay here.

"Unbelievable"
5 stars"

Fallout 3 is one of the best games i have ever played and has gotten me to play it for months. When i first played it I thought “haven't I played this before” because of the massive gameplay and graphical similarities that are shared with Fallout 3 and Oblivion. It has a large cult like following with a lot of websites devoted to mods for Fallout 3 and oblivion. If you enjoyed oblivion you will like this too, but if you liked Fallout 1 or 2 there is no guarantee that you will like Fallout 3 because of the massive differences this game almost shouldn't even be in the same series or even category. The only real problem that i have with it is that fallout 3 is really unstable, they should change the name to “crash 3 times in ten minutes,” They may fix it in one of the updates. Even with the crash problem Fallout 3 is one of my favourite games EVER!!

"BEST GAME EVER"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is the best game i have ever played. I would recommend it to others. If you have ever played Oblivion and thought that was good, but thought there was something missing. Play fallout, its Oblivion with but with guns. It has a massive amount of side missions and other things you can do, Which is what makes this game so great .

It has its own Karma system were you are good or evil. Which is chosen by the things you say and the people you kill

You can wander through the wasteland for hours and still find new things. And if your looking for a post Apocalytic experince with loads of awsome weapons, side quests and vicious enemys, Fallout is for you.
