Excerpt from Evidence Taken by Authority of the Honorable the Secretary of the Treasury: Under a Report of the Committee of Claims and a Resolution Concurred in by the House of Representatives of the United States of America, in the Case of Indemnity of Charles F. Sibbald, of Philadelphia Mr. Sibbald had a claim to a tract of Land in Florida, containing Live Oak and other timber, and for the sawing of which he erected a Saw Mill. The United States sent an Agent to Florida, to preserve the Live Oak timber on the public land, according to the laws in force in rela tion to that subject. The petitioner says he had made contracts for the delivery of sawed timber, and had expended large sums of money in erecting Mills for that purpose, and in other expenditures for carry ing into effect his contracts, and for realizing profits from his pro perty.
