When it comes to MMO games, EQ has been around a very long time, in fact its definitely second only to Ultima Online in the length of time that it has been running and it shows.
While some may feel the graphics are a little blocky and dated, if your looking for graphical beauty then your probibly not going to be looking at the average MMO anyhow. Its true masterpeice is in depth. Dating back to the original EQ, the designers have attempted at every step of the way to build a world that contains every possible element that one would wish.
Since the release of EQ many MMO's have copied various aspects of its style, but few have captured the imagination of gamers for years at a time. If your looking for a game that you can spend 10 minutes or 10 hours playing in a stretch, EQ does provide for this, with quests, crafting and I beleive some 370 public zone instances in which to explore.
The aniversary edition is perhaps your single best way into EQ, as it comes with all the many expansions that have been released for EQ in one package, saving you a signifigant sum had you been forced to purchase them seperately.
But EQ is not really for the true younger gamers, despite its rating. It is a very complex social game at heart and one that requires maturity of years as well as clear communications skills in order to be able to gain the most from it.
