I rented Diablo II from my local Videoezy many years ago.
I started playing as a Barbarian, and I admit that early on I was wondering what all the fuss was about. The gameplay is so simplistic, you hold down the right mouse button on you enemy until it is dead.
Eventually though, I saw the light. This game plays like a slot machine, that is to say when you kill an attacker in this game a random item or items will drop.
Items range from common, to unique, to set items, and in between that you have socketed items (customised upgrades) and magic items. Basically there are a lot of items, and the game can be replayed over and over and over again.
And therein lies the addiction.
If you missed out on Diablo or Diablo II, you might be better off with World Of Warcraft which has similar addiction but a slower pace of game. Actually strike that comment, you really need to play Diablo II even if you are currently playing World Of Warcraft or have never played either.
Like every other Blizzard game released in the 1990's to the present day, this is something that every game collector needs and is easily one of the best games of all time. In fact, visitors to the Gamespy network voted for Diablo II as being their favourite game of all time.
