A delict is, in Scots law, a wrongful act which occurs independent of any contract. Examples are when one party has been negligent in the maintenance of a dwelling and another party receives an injury; noise nuisance between neighbours; selling faulty goods which cause harm; and publicly making a statement which causes harm. Delict is a key legal concept within Scotland and provides a remedy for a wronged party to seek redress against the wrong-doer. This text covers the whole of this area of law, and analyzes and explains it in uncomplicated terms. There is frequent use of case studies to explain the law through example.
