Description

This book covers: mailing to Multiple Sclerosis organizations, reviews in newspaper paperback columns, and feature latest research breakthroughs and likely future treatments. This is a moving, personal account of Dr. Howard Weiner's long-term scientific quest to find a cure for multiple sclerosis, an utterly confounding and devastating disease. He intertwines the story of the search for a cure over the last 30 years, both his own work and that of other researchers, with the moving and inspiring stories of a number of his patients and their battles with the disease. Offering a message of great hope, he highlights a number of new treatments in early stages of development that are dramatically improving the lives of some MS sufferers, and makes a powerful argument that a cure will be found. Weiner is a published novelist, and his writing skill makes this book much more emotionally engaging and captivating than the typical research saga. The book is written in a wonderfully sensitive and empathetic voice. He invests his account of the scientific quest with his personal passion to make a breakthrough, and writes with deep compassion about the frustration and sorrow that MS sufferers and their families go through with the disease.
