"Awesome Graphics"
4 stars"

The metal box made me buy this game. I knew nothing about this game other than it has the most incredible graphics, yet the box is so cool, that I couldn't restrain myself from getting it.

Anyway. Review.

The most obvious thing to note about this game is the graphics. I have to run this game on a mac laptop, so I have to turn all settings to low. But even still, the graphics are incredible.

Gameplay-wise, it is quite revolutionary. The adapt to survive idea is fantastic. That suit is great fun to use and sneaking up on someone with cloak-mode turned on, giving him a surprise and seeing the reaction of the guy as you suddenly bash him in the face with strength mode is very hilarious.

The first part of the game is very fun and extremely well made. Killing people in different environments, and different situations is exciting. However, once the aliens come, it becomes impossibly difficult, and eventually, overdone, and tedious. The last few missions are terribly made, and the end is very stereotypical.

Also, the first part of the story is believable. But the last few missions just ruined it.

Online can get boring very quickly, as there are only 2 game modes.

So, as a whole, I gave this game a 4 star rating. The fun bits are indeed very fun. But the rest is really not so fun. In fact, frustrating.

"Incredible FPS"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Crysis will no doubt pickup dozens of game of the year rewards; but it absolutely deserves them. This incredible game has the best real-time rendering visuals known to man. The gameplay is solid, sound is awesome, AI is quite good and multilayer isn't bad either, not to mention the whole epic-ness of this game is incredible. While it might be a joy to look at, Crysis really does eat your PC for breakfast. So your going to need a good rig to be able to play this game. Although I was impressed with my aging system. AM2 3800+, 2Gb Gskill RAM, X1950pro @ 1280×1024 no AA, all setting on medium besides Shadows; and I can get a very playable game with 20–40FPS. Sure it slows down in high-action, but playable none the less.

If your a PC gamer with a solid rig, buy this game. You won't regret it.

Very fun and exciting game, beautiful detailed landscape and scenery.

Pros:

  • Excellent effects
  • Fun cars and vehicles to drive
  • Extremely detailed graphics, looks very real
  • Excellent powers and missions

Cons:

  • VERY demanding game (I have a 512 8600gt and can run on medium)
  • A few glitches here and there.

Id say 4 stars!

"Must buy, if over-hyped."
4 stars"

Well I just completed Crysis and thought I'd add my 2 cents.

Pros:

  • Beautiful graphics.
  • Engaging storyline.
  • Excellent “Call of Duty” use of team mates and cinematic cut-scenes.
  • Great weapon models and customization.
  • Nano-suit feature works exceptionally well without making one “godly” or over-powered and adds well to game play.
  • Great A.I
  • Amazing and engrossing art design.
  • Enemy cussing…heh.
  • Some great “sandbox” level design allowing replay value.

Cons:

  • Resource hog.
  • Vehicles feel clumsy to drive and are almost “god-like” in the early game mowing down enemies far to easily imo.
  • The “Team America” theme is a bit old.
  • Spawn of enemies once a “base” is aggroed.
  • Not many weapon choices or variation other than customization which, while nice, becomes largely redundant once the ideal mods are found for each weapon.
  • Same old boring weapon hierarchy.
  • In game glitches such as enemies not reacting, sniper shots generating endless re-spawns unless a checkpoint has been triggered, corner gathering, etc, etc.
  • Fizzles out after the first 50–60% becoming linear.
  • Personally I would have preferred to stay in the jungle for the whole game.Evil aliens or demons invading the earth is getting a tad old-hat (Doom anyone?).

To conclude I throughly enjoyed Crysis and rate it as the best looking game I've played for quite some time.

Crytek have really cemented their place as a developer to be reckoned with and while I honestly think the game is superb in many ways it certainly won't make all of you jump out of your chairs with mantras of “best game ever made!!” especially if you have played FPS for 10 or more years as in the end I found it lacked over-all originality.

I think Bioshock is easily more deserving of any game of the year titles purely for being truly original while still looking gorgeous.

Regardless Crysis is a technological tour de force and easily a “must-have” for any serious FPS fan.

"Looks good... and that's it."
3 stars"

I favour a decent game over pretty lights and scenery but I couldn't resist giving Crysis a try. Yes it did have amazing graphics but the game itself just went downhill as you progress. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was fantastic sneaking over the island, having fun with the different suit abilities, and enjoying the visuals. Pretty soon the term “sandbox” goes out the window though. In fact everything does.

The missions become increasingly repetitive. Any kind of autonomy goes out the window and you're following the single path you're allowed. Even using the suit becomes a chore. I had to force myself to find novel ways of using it because it's too easy to turn invisible, find a target, shoot, turn invisible again. Even that soon just turned into leaving it in armour mode and forgetting it.

By the time you come across guys standing around with mini-guns any pretence at being engrossed in a storyline is gone too. I cringed more times than I could count. The final mission is a joke. Even the nano-suit seems to go from being invincible to paper thin to help the plot.

I'll just quickly say: the vehicles all sucked, the weapons were dull at best (a plain shotgun and rifle are the best weapons), the aliens were hopeless, the AI wasn't too smart and it all finished far too soon. Perhaps that last one was a good thing.

I still give it 3 stars because the graphics do look awesome and I'd say the first half of the game is enjoyable. If they dropped the aliens and made a better time of roaming the island it would've been a great game.

"Fun game... for a while."
3 stars"

Crysis is a great game, right up until the final third begins. From then on, the game's formula changes. It goes from being a great sandbox shooter, to being just another on-rails, scripted shooter. The final part of the game is so bad and so disappointing, that it's almost hard not to hate the entire game for it.

I had an incredible amount of fun during the first 2 thirds, and then it was all ruined.

I sort of want my money back…

"Best Game Ever"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Ignore all those who have hated Crysis from the moment it was set to be great. It is by far the best video game ever made. No other game is as complete as Crysis. Photolike graphics, brilliant AI, awesome sound, great destructible environments. It all comes together to make Crysis an unparalleled expeirience. Until you've played Crysis don't judge it like so many people do. Don't say its bad just because its so hyped because the hype is justified. Nothing compares to Crysis. Ten out of 5 is still not enough.

I thouroughly enjoyed Far Cry and remember how enthralled I was with it. Granted, dealing with another game that featured genetically altered monsters was annoying, but that was only a minor issue in an otherwise perfect game.

Crysis (I hope Crytek's next game does not feature the word ‘cry’ in it anywhere!) is an equally enthralling game. The graphics, if you have the PC for it (of the which, I have Crossfire – yes, I like ATI and hate nVidia, get over it! – and the game doesn't seem to support it) are stellar. You can run it on high but the Ultra setting is blocked as no such PC exists (other than at the CIA perhaps; wouldn't that be fun!). Regardless, it's still a purty game.

The missions are fun and the story is entertaining. The gameplay is highly adictive. Most notably is your nanosuit (although I felt like Predator every time I went to stealth) and the seemingly endless weapon customisation, as long as you have the parts, is a fantastic addition. This is truely the first third-generation PC game of the 21st century. No annoying Trigans this time, but cool aliens that sound like ‘War of the Worlds’ but move like ‘The Matrix’ (a nice blend). The levels are nicely designed with a truely open feel, although all paths still lead to the same end, and how you go about playing the game is really dependent on the kind of player you are.

Definately a game to have and hold on to; especially since you'll be able to play it the way it was meant to be played in 5 years or so.

"A good taste of future graphics"
4 stars"

The first half of the game is pretty amazing, once you get into the caves and mountain,it becomes a monotonous, one dimensional fragfest of aliens etc. I wonder how many North Koreans buy this game considering the patriotic “USA” style of narrative in games like this…you know......go,go,go,…fist in the air…I'm a U.S. marine come to save you from yourself type of crud.........no wonder the rest of the world hates them.

Personally,I still think Far Cry is better (although, that gets pretty stupid at the end too)

The nanosuit and some of the weapons in Crysis are pretty neat, the vehicles were good except the VTOL ,which seemed to do what ever it wanted regardless of my input and there was a few bugs and crashes, the worst one for me was on the carrier, falling through the deck into the sea,and that was the point where I finished playing it as I had already had enough of the relentless hordes of aliens and boring repetitive gameplay.

The game certainly has nice graphics, even on very mediocre hardware like my 8600gt,and in years to come, the increased hardware power will really show what a great job they did on the graphics.........too bad, from my perspective, that they didn't make a more engaging storyline, like say, bioshock.

"Awesome"
5 stars"

Wow, Crysis is more than I had expected. I've been playing at max graphics with at least 40fps and the game is amazing. The graphics, the gameplay, it's all great. I haven't experienced multiplayer yet but I can't wait!

"New hardware will improve Crysis"
5 stars"

Crysis is a really good game and I haven't played it yet although Iv'e had a look at videos online and been to the incrysis.com forum. I wouldn't be able to play it very well because my pc only just meets the minimum system requirements for windows xp. I'm going to build my own computer in about 7 months time which will probably cost me around $5000. You need better hardware to play Crysis at very high settings on Directx 10 with good fps. I would wait a while for new technology to become available before building a new computer. Iv'e done some research and this is the new hardware I'm going to buy for my pc: nForce 790i motherboard which has triple SLI and PCIe 2.0. An Intel 45nm core 2 quad 3GHz. 2GB DDR3 1333 memory. Two Nvidia Geforce 9800×xx in SLI which will support directx 10.1. A 22–28 inch Widescreen HD LCD monitor with HDMI out. I will run this on windows vista. When these components are available (6 months approx) and my new computer is ready it should run Crysis and next gen games very well. Of course I need to save up alot of money.

Someone else has mentioned what a resource hog it is but lets add a few other items. If your using vista (dx10), a creative soundcard and even a decent nvidia gfx card (8800 and above), don't expect much. Your framerates will be poor with frequent lockups due to the crytek engine vs those companies existing (and beta) drivers. Yes in the future the engine may shine once far more powerful cpu/gpu's are released. As for game play, it is neither fluid nor multidirectional. You have only one way to go to achieve objectives. You even have to use your f key (pickup) to climb ladders! And if the ****s hitting the fan, it suprisingly hard to collect ammo/weapons off the ground on the fly. Couple that with the terrible framerates and you hit frustration alley. I'm not saying don'y buy it for a blast. Just don't expect the HD video quality they tempted us with for the last 2 years. There are some decent custom configs available out there on the web which will help you achieve higher fps but still, even with good quality h/ware, 20 to 30 fps is the average and when you get to the alien portion, expect between 8 to 15 fps. Bollocks really but hopefully someone like Grey Matter etc might turn something fanastic out of the engine in the future.

"A far cry from FarCry"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I think many of us expected a lot more from this game after the huge success of was FarCry (I was a huge fan of the xbox version).

I actually managed to get some decent play out of it on medium settings using… Core 2 Duo 2.14ghz, GeForce 8600GT 256mb, 2gig ram. A warning to anyone planning to buy a new GPU, AVOID GeForce 8600GT!!! I get the same graphics artifacts and texture mapping problems on EVERY game.

Back to the game. Compared to FarCry it was disappointingly short, it was made with either a part 2 or an expansion in mind and I hate when developers do that! And just like most other games these days once you kill off the boss the credits roll… no pay off!! Why are developers skimping on the final FMV's???

The nanosuit's power is too short-lived, while running you have maybe 4 seconds of cloaking which is never enough and it's probably the only power you will make use of constantly. There really aren't many different weapons to choose from but the mods kind of make up for that. Personally once I got the sniper scope I never changed it. I would have liked to see something like thermal vision or something unique, maybe we'll get that in part 2.

The story isn't anything original but as long as it's better than the pathetic drivel that we got from Halo can you really complain?

2 things that I have to compliment are the enemy AI (very intelligent!) and the game engine which was awesome, almost every tree or building could be destroyed. Occasionally the physics would get a little glitchy but with future patches many of the issues with crashing and freezing will be resolved.
