The estimate for last year is slightly below the United States Department of Agriculture figure of 27, 462, 000 short tons. Slight. Decreases occur this year in the Willett and Gray esti mates for both the cane and beet sugar crops. The world's production of cane _sugar is placed at short tons com pared with last year's final estimate of 18, short tons, while the beet sugar crop is estimated at short ton's' compared with short tons reported for last season.
