She wants to join her husband, a student at Brandeis University. Soviet authorities won't grant her an exit visa. How foreign and evil this must seem to the average grower, whose life is, in many respects, a symbol of freedom. He had the freedom to choose his vocation. He has the freedom to buy or sell his acreage. To profit from the fruits of his labors. He has the freedom to sell his bogs in Massachusetts and buy some in Washington if he wants. The Russian citizen is required to have the approval of his government if he wants to move from Moscow to Leningrad. The cranberry grower can choose to join a cooperative or go it alone. He can even choose to give it all up and go to the Soviet Union and nobody is going to say, No, you can't do that.
