It was at first intended to offer but a slight sketch of Catharine of Aragon - just enough to exhibit the domestic and social position of Elizabeth when a girl. But the unexpected wealth of historical illustration which the Spanish archives yielded to the explorer sent out by our Government, suggested a more ample portrait of that noble and romantic Queen.
