As coastal problems burgeon, problems of erosion, pollution and coastal change are becoming ever more serious, and necessitate more and more complex management strategies. This book examines some of the more serious coastal problems, from natural hazards to the disposal of toxic waste. A holistic approach to the understanding of coastal problems is suggested, which integrates geomorphology, ecology and society through a consideration of the basic processes at work. The book sets concerns about the threat to the coastal environment posed by future global warming in perspective, and illustrates that there are many more pressing problems which must not be ignored in future management plans.
