Olive and Violet Bright are leaving England to visit their cousins in Bavaria. They are expecting a traditional Christmas high in the Alps with balls and a wedding to attend. But they soon discover that the Christmas trees of Winter Lake are being destroyed by a blight brought in by a mysterious count. Olive, Violet and their cousins, Franzie, Little Willy, Lorelei and Freya escape an avalanche, travel to northern Germany, Budapest, Venice, and back to Bavaria to try and save the beautiful trees. Action is non-stop as they travel around Europe on their adventures. The beauty and strength of the old kingdom is matched by the strength of its people in trying to save their Christmas before it is too late.
