Excerpt from Charlotte Medical Journal, Vol. 1: July, 1892 If one were to be asked unawares, the causative factors of chorea it is probable that two or three suggestions would occur to him as the result of unconscious cerebration, and we would say fright, rheumatism, and endocarditis, and on being asked his reasons for the latter part of his answer he could probably only say it was very likely the remains of his early teachings, fortified by a few cases which he had himself observed and in which the only caus ative element apparent was either rheumatism or endocarditis.
