BB-8 App-Enabled Droid by Sphero reviews

If I had to chose between owning this droid and having friends, id quite happily kick all my friends to the curb. BB-8 is something else entirely. It is the greatest Star Wars collectible ever released. This morning I woke up happy knowing that I get to chase my dogs around the house with him again. An absolute must have for any Star Wars Fan.

BB-8 controllable droid is pretty much the best of the new Star Wars toys. Ordered it on force Friday and had it dropped off in the evening. Really good service from mighty ape and very pleased with it. The app is great and you'll have lots of fun.

Only downsides so far is that the wheels under the head of BB-8 will pick up lots of fluffy. Works best on hard surfaces or short close weave carpet.

Bought one and love it. Works well and love the exploring mode.

The holigraphic messaging is cool and turns his head in the right direction when playing message.

It is also highly detailed with great packaging.

It maybe not cheap, but is very cool, has more features than Sphero.

General: The sound BB-8 apparently makes in the promo vids actually comes from the phone app NOT the toy.

My home environment is polished wood floors with rugs and carpet runners…

Drive mode – BB-8 is not able to move on many of the rugs because the pile is too deep. Due to the way BB-8 moves it is very tricky to keep it on the carpeted areas and once it leaves the carpet it is stuck on the narrow surrounding wood flooring because it does not have the speed to mount the carpet from the wooden floor.

Patrol mode (Autonomous Behavior) – In addition to the problems seen in Drive Mode, BB-8 very quickly gets stuck on the narrow strips of wooden flooring and spends most of it's time in corners or behind doors, skittering around attempting to find it's way out. Also, it often looses it's head when it trundles behind curtains, or under furniture.

Holographic Communication – In the promo vid I saw, the “holographic” image appeared to be projected onto a wall from BB-8. The “hologram” is in fact augmented reality and only visible via the phone app (I did wonder if the promo was too good to be true.)

Voice recognition – I could not get this to work at all.

It's a generally well built toy but sadly lacking on deliverables for the price.

Love this little guy. Easy to setup and start playing with. Has been a hit at the office. :o)

Absolutely phenomenal design, comes with amazing features such as holographic display, taunts and the ability to create it's own personality! If you are ever tired of it, you can display on your shelf and it looks awesome :) Only complaint would be the amount of time it's able to be controlled compared to the time it takes to charge but other than that this is simply AWESOME

I'm a long time Star Wars fan and BeeGee 8 is my new favorite addition to the series! Although nothing can beat Jar Jar Brinks! Meesa think Star Wars a very good! AWAAAAAAAH!!! Let the force be with you :)

I am a child with the buying power of an adult and this is the perfect toy. Yes my money could've been better spent paying my mortgage but I don't care I have a working BB-8 and you don't!

So much fun ,cute little and easy to use

Today, I just watched the film Star Wars The Force Awakened – that was very interesting and thought, well better having this Droid than the R2 D2 unit. I wouldn't mind having this 1

Love this cute lil guy. He is so easy to use. My only complaint is I wish he was a bit bigger.

A bit pricey but fun… If you can get it to work! The Android app is very hit and miss, especially if you're running 6.0 (marshmallow). Since upgrading from 5 to 6, BB-8 is never detected, though it worked perfectly before.

If you have an Apple device, then go for it.

If you're using Android, then wait and see if Sphero sorts out the app. Otherwise there could be some very disappointed kids (of all ages) come Xmas morning.

Nice toy from Sphero. Very cool toy with multiple features, a must have if you are big Star Wars fan. A little pricey and would be really cool if the droid can project the recorded message to the wall.
