‘Awake At Dawn’ is the debut album from one of Aotearoa’s finest live acts, dDub.
This high-energy Auckland-based 6-piece draw their musical influences from the heart of rock, roots, reggae, dub and ska, resulting in a fusion of flavours, distinctly dDub in sound and style.
Their unique sound never fails to capture an audience’s attention and they have become firm crowd favourites at many nationwide outdoor festivals, including recent sets at Rhythm and Vines, Soundsplash and Splore.
Recorded at Wellington’s Inka Studios before making the journey north to Eden Terrace Audio in Auckland, where Stu Newman took over mixing and additional engineering duties. As is often the way with albums, the band booked studio time during the ‘graveyard shift’ which meant many sessions finished in the early dawn hours. Awake at Dawn is reflective of months spent living on a completely opposite time-schedule.
‘Awake at Dawn’ is a fantastic representation of the current strength and vitality of Aotearoa’s roots, rock and reggae culture!
“Local skanksters dDub assemble a digital dance party piece that could help snap the nation out of it’s Prozac-reggae slumber.”
