Avencast is the name of the magic academy in which the game is set. Your character is a young apprentice in this academy, and apart from choosing your name, the level difficulty and camera style, everything else is set. This does not detract from the game, instead it keeps the action fast paced and flowing.
The only choice of class(Mage) is actually more diverse than it would appear, being able to choose a mix of the Blood (Melee), Soul(Ranged) or Summoning(Pets) trees. It is worth noting that it is not a typical point and click adventure, in that your spells do not automatically hit their target. While the game gets you to specialise in either Soul magic or Blood, and with the intelligent AI (dodging, defending themselves) the game will still prove challenging even on the easiest of settings.
The camera style is one of the more interesting elements of the game, I personally found that the “always behind” setting to be a bit glitchy, and ended up choosing the freedom to move it myself. Once mastered it was beautifully slick and helped with the truly immersive feel, showing off the fantastic graphics that this game offered.
Overall many hours of fun and enjoyment, just don't expect a traditional Role Playing Game.
