Description

Excerpt from "Articles" Of Irish Manufacture, or Portions of Cork History I have sent copies of the annexed Circular and Schedule to several gentlemen, and it is my intention to forward cupies of the same to manynthers. Lennie most mostly request that those to whom I shall have sent them will not neglect to do their duty. All information bearing on the subject; will be acceptable, -such as the comparative rents of Ah sentee and Resident Proprietors for similar takes, th'e contri butions of Absentees to the Local Charities for ten or any other number of years; Douceurs to Agents, are: &c. I shall expect to have the returns made to me on or before the lat of January, 1834, at the latest. It is unnecessary for me to say, that I shall be most happy to receive information as well from those to whom I have not sent circulars, as from those to whom I have. All communications, however, must be either forwarded through a Member of Parliament. Or post paid. When my informant wishes that I should not make use of his name in any publication which may arise out of this enquiry, let him intimate his wish by writing the word private at the head of his letter. Sir, - Irishmen of all descriptions agreeing that Absenteeism is a serious evil and one that ought to be remedied, it has oc curred to me, that, -with a view to make the extent of the evil more apparent to both Englishmen and Irishmen, and thereby to render its cure the more likely and immediate it would be useful if there were drawn up for each County, a list of its Absentees (permanent anskoccasional) with their respective rentals. Having myself determined to draw up such a list for the County (and City) of Cork, may I request, that you will, should you approve of my resolution - assist me in the execu-f mm of it, by filling up tile subjoined Schedule according to your knowledge. I have the honor to be, Sir. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
