Here he wintered with his vessels, the Fury and the Hecla. The succeeding summer was spent in explor ing; and the rigors of a second winter were safely encountered on the little island of Igloolik, at the head of F ox, Channel. After an imprisonment of more than ten months, the ships were liberated in August, 1823. A perilous voyage among the ice brought them back to England in safety before the close of the year.
